Ecobaby and Energy (back to environmental policy)
We believe it is essential to reduce our energy consumption, particularly in view of our dependence on fossil fuels. At Ecobaby, we aim to reduce energy costs of our office-based activities, and our delivery systems.
Office: All computers are energy-star compliant. Lighting is by low-energy bulbs, in luminaires which are kept clean to maximise output. Heating is presently by electric storage heating.
Powered by the Wind! From May 2002, all electricity used has been produced by Wind Power. Airtricity (www.airtricity.net) operate windmill farms in various parts of Ireland. They feed into the National Grid. Of course we can't say that the particular electrons that arrive here come from their generators as opposed to fossil fuelled plant. However, their contribution to the National Grid means that some fossil fuel is being preserved. Every bit helps.
Airtricity are not yet in a position to supply domestic users, and concentrate on businesses within a particular consumption range.
Transport: Zero-energy consuming vehicles are used for deliveries where possible. Careful planning of delivery routes reduces wasteful energy consumption. We also optimise our distribution methods to reduce pollution.
Future: Increased use of zero-emission vehicles. (check out www.theaircar.com - could it be true??? Conversion of our Diesel van to run on a vegetable oil. (see www.rapoleum.com) Soon to move residence closer to work to reduce transport impact (and reduce travelling time!)
